The Gerton Lab

The Gerton Lab

How do chromosome features impact their organization, segregation, and function?

Chromosomes

Chromosomes are fundamental packages of genetic information, and cells meticulously safeguard their integrity because the instructions they contain are essential for life. In my lab, we focus on the molecular regulators of chromosome integrity and function. Our research explores the proteins, sequences, and processes that shape genome stability—specifically structural maintenance proteins, kinetochore proteins, recombination, transcription, and tandem repeats. By investigating these elements, we aim to deepen our understanding of chromosome organization, segregation, and function, which is essential for advancing knowledge of human health, disease, and genome evolution.
