Evan J. Morrison is an HHMI Gilliam Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Kostova Lab at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research, where he studies ribosome quality control.  He is interested in how cells detect, degrade, and repair dysfunctional ribosomes. To address these questions, Evan uses a combination of high-throughput molecular biology and biochemical approaches.  Evan completed his Ph.D. in the Rissland Lab at the University of Colorado Anschutz, where he studied translation elongation and protein turnover. His thesis work led to the discovery of a novel mammalian N-degron pathway.  More broadly, Evan is interested in how post-transcriptional processes, including translation and ubiquitin–proteasome system-dependent protein turnover, contribute to protein homeostasis.
